In January of this year, rather than making a New Years Resolution I was sure not to keep, I made a list of things to do. You can find it here. With one quarter left in the year I am evaluating how I’m doing and when I still need to do.
* see a ballet (going to see the Nutcracker – and the Rockettes, but they don’t count as a ballet)
* go to at least 4 Julliard performances (multiple more in the works)
1. Jan 13 – Chamberfest 2009
2. Apr 6 – Juilliard Orchestra
3. Oct 14 – Juilliard Jazz Ensemble
* snow ski at least once
* visit Boston
* visit DC
* visit San Francisco (Prob going to be 2010)
* Chicago for Easter
* Houston for Memorial Day or 4th of July but actually in March and again for the Tech/Texas football game)
* read at least 10 books (I need to get on this)
1. Atonement by Ian McEwan
2. American Wife by Curtis Steppenfield
3. Outliers by Malcom Gladwell
4. An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady (Laura Bush) (This was a follow up to American Wife, to see how much of it was actually truthful and how much was fiction.)
5. I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max
* knit my first pair of socks (one done, one to go)
* knit my first sweater
* participate in the race for the cure
* get below 130 (129 counts)
* be able to do the splits again
* work a job where I don’t feel like I’m recessing
* see the Frick collection
* Go to the MOMA
* Go to the Guggenheim
* Go to Brooklyn for more than taxes (Explored Prospect Park, ty very much!)
Also walked the Brooklyn Bridge, which wasn’t initially on my list, but was added in about March. I think I’m doing pretty well, but I still have a lot to do.

I got an email from Daily Candy today about Greenpots; They are chemical free, enameled cast iron pots that evenly distribute heat.

They have pots, skillets, saucepans, specialty pots, etc. They are all oven safe and I think they’re awesome. How great would the green pepper pot be for a quiche or the pumpkin pot for a pumpkin cake? I want them all!

Everything I give for Christmas this year I want to be hand made (at least for the females in my life). Either by myself or someone else. 3 awesome resources – my knitting needles & my hands, my sewing machine, & Etsy! I want to do all my Christmas shopping right NOW!

It is officially mitten weather here (40 on the way to work today), so this post comes at the perfect time! I held off on posting these until the recipient had been given them. I made them for Lauren’s birthday.

The buttons don’t seem to be holding as well as I’d like, and depending on how she feels, I may end up sewing the cuffs closed.

I didn’t count my rows on the hands, so one ended up slightly longer than the other, but it’s really not noticeable.

These came out so nice and soft that now I really need to make myself a pair!

Last week I went with some friends to see the Martha Stewart show. One of the girls had put in for tickets online and got some. She seems to be good at that – she was also picked in the raffle to run the NYC Marathon (I have other friends who’ve tried for 3 years and not gotten in).
The set of the Martha Stewart show was BEAUTIFUL. These are some of the pictures I took that don’t do it justice. It was really amazing. I want that set to be my house!

Martha herself seemed a little awkward to me, although, I have to give her credit, she wore some amazingly tall heels – completely unexpected by me. She was definitely reading straight from the teleprompter the whole show – whereas I feel like most of the shows I’ve seen, the hosts definitely deviate from the prompter or know what is written well enough that they don’t really need to read it. Maybe that’s because people like Ellen, Conan, John Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, etc, are really involved in what is written for their shows. Maybe not so much in Martha’s case?

Either way, going to the show was so interesting, and we got some great free stuff, Martha just seemed uncomfortable to me.

They’re both white and soft! *Awesome!* According to Gothamist, the NYPD is apparently now calling Hipsters marshmallows. I couldn’t love the name more.

When I was in Texas a couple of weeks ago I mentioned to my mom that I wished I had a sewing machine and that I would like to make a table cloth (because my table is too big to buy one for) among other things.

Friday I got an email from our front desk that I had a package. When I went down and got it, to my surprise, my mom had sent me something. I got upstairs, got it open, and there was my very own sewing machine! Yay! Not sure where I’m going to put it yet or how I’m going to finance yet another expensive hobby (Yarn costs me enough already!), but I’m excited about it. I have the basics of sewing down – I used to make myself pj pants and matching pillows in high school – now I just have to learn how to follow patterns and things. I would love to make a few people some aprons for Christmas!
Now I just need to get good scissors, stock up on thread & bobbins, and figure out where to buy fabric (other than the garment district because that is the surest way to go broke immediately).

Rep: In other news, I have a table reserved at the ‘Pumpkin Carving & Pumpkin Ale Night’ at [bar] and would like to extend an invitation to both of you. You get to carve your own pumpkin and indulge on the finest pumpkin beer around. Free candy corn too.
Me: I think Pumpkin carving sounds awesome. Count me in!
Rep: [My teammate's name]? (As in, are you coming?) Instead of carving, you can pretend the pumpkin is a rep and stab it profusely, I won’t be offended.

What if everywhere we went we had to do squats rather than simply walk?
What if we were allotted a limited number of questions to ask a day? (Would people become more proactive?)
What if no one could lie? (Would people still get their feelings hurt as easily?)
What if people were just blunt, rather than PC?
What if people read books more?
What if people didn’t worship/glorify Hollywood?
What if people felt a social responsibility?

At some point I somehow managed to get onto the Texans for Rick Perry mailing list. I think this was because when I was in college a friend worked for the campaign, asked me to sign up, I thought nothing of it, did and that was that. Apparently he is campaigning again because I have gotten several emails from Texans for Rick Perry over the last month or two. I have clicked on the unsubscribe link with every email. In fact, I even called one of the people who emailed me and asked to be removed. I just got another email and called Rick Perry’s office to ask to be removed. The girl I talked to said she would do it. Rick Perry, I don’t support you. I actually don’t live in Texas anymore and haven’t for more than half of your term in office. I don’t care to receive emails about you. I don’t care to vote for you. I believe under the Can Spam Act I can actually sue Texans for Rick Perry for continuing to receive these emails. Rick Perry, take me off your mailing list!
