The beach

I went to the beach this weekend and it was so much fun!  We woke up early and took the train out.  We laid out, took a walk, read magazines, played in the waves…it was perfect.  There was an entire section of beach just for surfing.  They were so much fun just to watch.  In the late afternoon as the tide came in we were watching the waves slowly come up and we were a safe distance from where the water was breaking that the impeding waves weren’t a threat to us…but this one really big wave came up over the hill the corrosion has caused and once it got over the hump it came back down to where we were since we were down.  I just sat there watching it and thinking, “oh, shit.”  It ruined all my magazines.  So sad.  Good thing they were at least free…but still, I didn’t get to read them.  So when storm clouds rolled in we left.  I got home and immediately realized I was pretty badly burned.  Someone I was with offered sun screen when we got there and I put it in the places where the normally burn (which is not many), but this time I burned preddy badly on my legs, butt and hips.  I’m blaming the reflection from the water.  It’s getting better though and it was definitely worth it!  Can’t wait to go back.

I’ve been neglectful

I blame moving and summer.  I’ve been pretty busy lately.  Last Thursday night we went on a sail boat cruise on the Hudson after work.  I drank red wine and enjoyed the beauty of this city I call home.  After, I went with friends to a lounge for food and more drinks.  Some of the things I get to do are so amazing.  Friday I had the day off and packed up my apartment.  Saturday I got up, took 3 bags to Salvation Army and headed to UHaul.  I waited in line for an hour and fifteen minutes and proceeded “home” to load my belongings in a 10×10 truck.  It fit nicely with room to spare.  It took about an hour and a half with breaks to load the truck and we headed to my new place.  Unloading was much faster because we were using carts and elevators.  We got the truck all unloaded in about a half an hour.  We also picked up the couch a colleague sold me and then returned the truck after dropping it off.  Since then I haven’t had internet, I’ve been unpacking, and I’ve been busy.  Hopefully I’ll be better about writing now, but I always say that, right?

So I’m living alone until my roommie moves here on Saturday.  Hopefully we live together well.  The person who introduced me to her thinks we’ll get along well.  We seem to so far…except that sometimes she has no idea about anything.  Haha.  We’ll see how it goes.  Can’t be worse than my last roommate.

Worthless

My roommate is a fricking cave man.  When I moved into my apartment you couldn’t tell the bathrub had been white.  I don’t think he knows what bleach/clorox is and he DEFINITELY does not know how to clean or do dishes.  He likes the apartment hot and dark and because he has the windows in his room he can close the shades completely at his will.  The way he washes dishes is to put his used, dirty dish in the sink, squirt soap on it, and then run the hot water on that until all the soap is gone.  After that he shakes the water off and puts it back in the cupboard.  Needless to say, I wash every dish before I use it.  At one point we had rugs in our bathroom, but he peed on them and left it.  After almost a week I couldn’t stand the smell, so I put them in a plastic bag and left them on his bed to be cleaned.  I have not seen them since.  I got in the shower one day to find a bloody squished mosquito on the wall.  After finally 4 days I asked him to clean it off.  The same thing happened with tuna.  One day I guess he was having it for dinner and spilled it on the counter.  He left it there until I asked him to clean it up.  I came home one day to find him sitting in the kitchen eating some soup with bread and butter.  He was digging in the butter with a fork and slathering it on the break…it was my butter.  Another day I was sitting in the kitchen and he came home, opened the refrigerator and grabbed my wate bottle I keep in there.  I told him it was mine and he was like, oh well I have one in there too.  I looked and told him there wasn’t another so he said, well, I’ve been drinking out of this one.  He came home drunk late one night and fell on my full length mirror and broke it, but didn’t say anything to me about it.  He didn’t know I woke up I guess and just thought I’d wonder what happened to my mirror.  I finally asked him to buy a new one and he was like, oh, I did that?  So rather than buy a new one (because he’s so disgustingly cheap) he took the hooks out of it (the broken part was it pulled a hook out of the back and it wouldn’t hang anymore) and taped them to the other end.  It now hangs, but is crooked.  When I moved in, because of the shower, I instituted a cleaning schedule and because I never made directions or a list of what needs to be cleaned, when it is his weekend he sweeps.  One weekend I asked him to clean the bathtub, so he wiped it down with napkins.  He’s recently taken to emailing me to ask me to take out the trash.  I am home maybe 3 days a week.

This weekend was my weekend to clean and I thought that since this is my last week in the apartment that what the hell, I’d clean like he does.  Sweep and blew off the counter tops.  (I also cleaned the mirror and tv, which I’m sure he didn’t notice).  I just got this email from him:

“I went ahead and took out the trash but just a reminder that it was your weekend to clean but I don’t think you did.  :) ”

I do not intend to clean any better than that, he doesn’t and I’m moving out.  On top of that, does he want a cookie for taking out the trash?  It was 95% his!  Also, learn some grammar…and is that smiley face his attempt at making his email friendly?!  I mean, honestly?!  Sometimes my roommate’s existance really makes me ask, “wtf?!”

Apt “shopping”

I need to write about my living situation and what a terrible experience I have had trying to change it randing from a broken refrigerator my management company is making me pay for, brokers, pushy sales people, craigslist scams, no space, high rent, etc.  I will do this soon, but it’s almost 1am and I have to be up in 5 hours…

I <3 boys named Chris

Mike, this is not an opportunity for you to mention anything involving someone with the initials CG.  You did not always know it.

With that said, last Friday was my first summer Friday.  Regardless, I got up at 6am like any other day.   this  case though I did not put on my tennis shoes and call my bf to make sure he was on his way to the gym.  Instead I put on a pair of jeans and some sandals and made my way up to Rockefeller Center.  I know a producer at the Today Show and he hooked me up with tickets to the Chris Brown concert.

See, for whatever reason I have this irrational, not ok, totally pedophile crush on Chris Brown.  So I got tickets and went to the show.  Didn’t have to wait in line or anything!  Thing about public concerts though is the screaming “tweens.”  There was this tiny girl who decided to wedge herself in between me and the girl in front of me.  There wasn’t enough space, but she made it happen.  Glad she was a solid 9 inches shorter than me.  Every time CB even blinked in our direction she would jump up and down (sometimes on my toes) and scream at her friends, “OH MY GOD, HE LOOKED THIS WAY!!!!”

So the concert was pretty cool and watching him perform is pretty great, but really, I can’t handle teenagers like that.  I’ll continue to enjoy the summer concert series from the treadmill, but I’m really glad I got to go at least once.

Change

Yesterday I went to a salon that was recommended to me by a colleague called Ringlet.  Sometime in mid-April I decided I wanted a change.  My hair had gotten ridiculously long and had been very long for a very long time, so I decided to cut it.  Well, for most of my life my mom has cut my hair and I was nervous about going to someone I didn’t know.  I explained that to her and that I was afraid it was going to be too short…so she played it ultra conservative, gave me some long layers, cut about 3 inches off and that was that.  After this little dose of change I still wanted to cut more, but I decided to be patient with it and see how I felt in a month.

This last weekend as I was perusing the streets of Manhattan in the 90 something heat, my hair was sticking to my back and was nearly as wet underneath as when I’d gotten out of the shower.  I decided I needed to cut more off and make a change.  Yesterday I went and had 5 or 6 inches cut off.  I needed to keep it long enough to put up because I go to the gym on a daily basis, so I thought collar bone length was good.  Once I left though, I decided that I still think it’s a little long.  It’s just past my collar bones and probably and inch or two longer than I think I want it.

I should have just nutted up in the beginning, cut the full 10 inches off and donated the hair.  I didn’t have any layers and could have done it.  Now the hair is just in a trash can somewhere.  Oh well.  Chalk it up to experience.
