Spring is Springing!

The weather is getting nicer and the world around me is starting to poke its head out of the winter hibernation. Spring is my most favorite time of year. New growth. Bright colors. New life. Singing birds. Spring is happiness incarnate to me. If I could live in a world of spring I don’t think anything could get me down. Here’s a little bit of the beauty I observed in my neighborhood this weekend.

New York City Skyline Photo Project

So early this year I decided I wanted to make use of my nice camera by creating a photo project. My first idea was to set my camera up to take a picture out my livingroom window (my view is the NYC midtown skyline) every five minutes to see how things change in a day and then to make these into a stop motion video. Then I started thinking, how neat would it be to maintain this idea, but take a picture every day for a year so you can see the seasons change as the year goes on.

I still haven’t done my first idea, but I am working on the second. Here are some of the most contrasting photos I have so far:
Taken on 2/14/11

Taken on 2/20/11

Taken on 2/21/11

Taken on 2/25/11

Crazy how drastically the days can differ.

My daily picture is taken every morning before I leave for work, but I took this one on Valentine’s Day evening. Thought I would share it. I’ve also thought about taking pics every night to show the change of the lights of the city every day – the Empire State Building is different every day and I thought it would be neat to illustrate the holidays and special days through the year be it green/yellow lights for the Packers winning the Superbowl, red white & blue for the Fourth of July, in this case red, pink and white for Valentine’s Day.

Hopefully other people will think this project is as fun as I do!

Dinner Party Table Setting

This past weekend I had a dinner party and had this vision in my mind of what I wanted my table to look like. I was able to hit my vision almost exactly and was so happy with my table.

The table cloth was really tough to find, actually, because my table is so big. It’s a 4’x4′ square. I found the “outdoor” table cloth at Bed Bath & Beyond last year. The placemats I also had from BB&B. The napkins are brand new from Williams Sonoma. They were only $7 each. I was going to make napkins, but I was crunched for time and these probably turned out to be cheaper than the fabric I would have used. The name cards are from Martha Stewart. They took some time, but I loved them.

We had a couple of birthdays to celebrate, so I make a chocolate cake with yummy buttercream frosting, but the birthday boys didn’t know I’d made a cake, so I put it in the microwave to hide until after dinner. Great hiding spot, but bad idea with so much cooking still left to be done. The frosting ended up melting off the sides of the cake, which was disappointing, but it was still good!

Current Fashion “Needs”

I got my tax return today and the responsible part of me is at great odds with the lover of pretty things in me. I should put my tax return in my savings account immediately. But I really, really want these:

As seen on Emma in last week’s episode of Glee – the Anthropologie Pom Flower Shift Dress

This Sunny Soiree Dress from Anthropologie that I would completely rock.

The hipster in me wants this dress, but I don’t think it would look good on me.

I am getting into flat/sandal mindset because nice weather is starting to try to peek it’s head through the clouds and snow. I want to be able to gallivant around town in these adorable flats from Aldo.
